Peter Mattinson Artwork – People – places - stories

 

Pete grew up and lived in Yorkshire before moving to Pwllheli 10 years ago.

 

His paintings are based on people and events which he has encountered throughout his life or based on situations he would have liked to have experienced. Solitude, a journey and chance encounters are influences within his work. His main aim is to provoke a thought.

 

His Stories begin as sketches in a notebook, similar to creating a scene for film or stage before starting the painting.

His portraits are set in scenes, real or imaginary. Why not be whatever or wherever you want to be?

 

He also paints neckties as characters set in various scenes.

 

His work has been featured in many publications including The New York Times and exhibited at The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC as part of a major exhibition. He has also been interviewed on television and radio.
